10 Tips for How to Create the Perfect Home Coffee Bar

For some of us, coffee is an occasional beverage we treat ourselves with, while for others, it is life essence in a cup that gives us Level 1 powers to just function like a real human. From choosing the right beans and strength to what type of milk and syrup you indulge in, your coffee order is as sophisticated as a sommelier’s palate. But what if we told you that you didn’t need to venture to your local cafe 3 times a day anymore? Instead, you could bring all the style and enjoyment of your brew house into your own home – saving you a few pennies in the process.

In this guide, we’re bringing you an easy check list on how you can have the perfect home coffee bar to match your interior aesthetic. Meaning you can savour every sip in the style and comfort of your own home.

1. Finding the Right Spot for Your Coffee Bar

Finding a suitable place is the first step to building a coffee bar. Look for spots within your home where there is unutilised space, such as corners by your desk, unused bookshelves, or an alcove that hasn’t had any TLC in years.

The space should also have easy access to a water faucet to fill up your coffee machine and kettle, be near to a power outlet to avoid using extension cables (tripping hazard) and have room for you to put used coffee pods, teabags, and cups.

2. Keeping your Coffee Bar Organised

Unlike your home office, your coffee bar should be more organised than a Japanese train station – everything in its place and running at maximum efficiency. Utilize space effectively, use trays, baskets and jars to keep everything neat and accessible. Make sure you keep a good amount of teaspoons on hand too! Consider sustainability by using old jam jars for holding loose ground coffee or sachets of sugar (which you definitely didn’t steal from the cafe…).

3. The Right Machine for the Job

We live in an age where there are so many ways to create a delicious and warming “cup of joe”. If you’re new to the barista-at-home game, perhaps you want  to start with something a little less daunting such as a coffee-pod machine! These home-brew machines are simple to use and easy to sustain with lots of subscription services available to sign up for – even your local supermarket should have some tasty options to try!

Ready to graduate to a fully-qualified home barista? Espresso machines are thankfully a lot smaller than the ones you might have seen in your local coffee shop but are more than capable of grinding fresh coffee beans and creating that golden crema.

As part of this promotion to home barista, you also need to consider the time you have for maintenance and how confident you would feel using each type of machine as this will be one of the main, if not the, investment for your home coffee bar.

4. Adding Personal Touches to your Coffee Bar

What is so magical about having a coffee bar is that they can be an absolutely amazing way to express yourself. The coffee bar can fit in with your home aesthetic and you can transform your space with some beautiful details.

Like your mantle piece or home desk, your coffee bar is a great way to put pictures of loved ones, drawings from the kids, or souvenirs from your travels – basically anything you can take a moment to fondly look at while you enjoy your coffee moment.

5. Let’s Create Some Ambience

You can level up your coffee bar set up by making it cozy with some ambient lighting, plants and print. Creating that ambience makes your coffee home bar a warm and inviting place to ponder the day ahead and not just get a caffeine fix.

6. Accessories Speak Volumes

Mugs are no longer a mundane piece of crockery – they are part of the show!

Elaborate, quirky and a great talking piece; mugs have become part of the decor and a way to show off our aesthetics. Showcase your new coffee bar at home with some of your favorites, whether you want to show off a mug than your niece made you, one from a local independent or one with your favorite mario character on it.

Storing them in uniform on a shelf will draw any visitor’s attention to discover your coffee station.

7. There’s Matcha More to Try

Coffee is a great place to start of course, it’s a universal winner and what most of us start our day off with. However, you can elevate your coffee bar at home but bringing in other delicious drinks, such as matcha

A powdered green tea, it is delicious and refreshing hot and cold with a lot of antioxidants in a cup. Level up your home coffee bar by adding matcha to your menu – if for nothing else it’ll add a pop of color to your setup.

9. Meet your Matcha

Not a fan of the taste of straight-up matcha? We hear you, it’s not for everyone. While matcha has become a really popular drink, drinking it ‘neat’ may not be for everyone’s palate, so try adding your favourite milk or even opt for flavours to add some sweetness – such as blueberry and strawberry!

8. Finding your Cup of Tea

From matcha lattes to whole tea options, coffee may not be your jam at all, so if you’re more of a herbal brewer then make your coffee bar a tea station instead. Have you ever noticed the shelves and shelves of different tea leaves at your local coffee shops? Why not choose a few caffeine free ones for when you don’t want to feel a buzz or you have a guest over that doesn’t want a fix of caffeine? With so many to choose from you can, your coffee bar could be a great opportunity to try some different ones

Chai is another great alternative to coffee, the spicy and sweet cinnamon blend is a great addition – steamed with milk, it is a fall’s day hug in a cup!
