Balancing between reality and fantasy, visual artist and photographer Samir Belhamra leaves us with a calming sense of daydreaming. He captures the beauty of his surroundings and takes a step further to completely reimagine it into the silent and almost transcendent wilderness.

In this interview, he reveals what he enjoys most about his job and how being patient can help you reach your goals. Continue reading and discover today’s artist on the spot.

How did you become an artist?

I have the impression that I have always been an artist. Since I was very young, I have been drawing, doing graffiti, a little illustration on the computer 🙂

What do you enjoy the most about your job?

The fact of being able to do what I like and what I want, without constraint, the fact of being able to express myself and express ideas, feelings that I would not have been able to transmit otherwise 🙂

In your opinion, how important is social media for artists nowadays?

Social networks clearly help me take a turn artistically. Things have become much more accessible, people too. It took years before reaching a large audience. Now, with a few clicks, our visuals can be found by thousands/millions of people.

Do you have any tips for beginners on building a social media presence?

To be as original and even as possible, people seek originality! 🙂 While doing what you love because that’s where you will excel the most!

If you could choose one artist to grab coffee with – who would it be?

I have several in mind 🙂 but I would like to drink a coffee with JuusoHD and Mikko Lagerstedt! See even Erik Johansson! I admire them, and they inspire me a lot in my works and motivation!

What do you enjoy doing when you are not creating?

To be honest, I’m always doing things on my computer. I create most of the time, and when I don’t create: I think about what I will create in the future. I spend a lot of time with my 22-month-old baby too;) I love to see her draw, talk, jump…

On your website, you share the advice to ‘Be Yourself’. What is the biggest advice you have ever been given?

To be yourself is the best way to let your own imagination do the job. When you try to be something or someone else, you go a little bit against “nature,” and it’s hard to follow things that we probably don’t want inside us. There are many ways to reply to this question, but well, this is mine 🙂

The biggest advice is probably: to be patient! Really, since we can’t predict the future, sometimes we can stop something without knowing that we are just a few steps from our goal. Be patient, be yourself, and keep creating! The magic will come 🙂
