The first place to normally consider is your own abode. You can still easily plan a New Year’s Eve party at home and make it spectacular! If the guestlist exceeds your place’s capacity, then there are plenty of venues that you can look at – big and small!
Often, you’ll be able to book town halls and a lot of bars and restaurants have rooms you can hire out, so consider these alongside your party these.
You’re Invited!
Who’s on the guest list? This is more important than you might realize, of course, this is your party and you are in charge of who to invite. It’s important to consider if you invite someone, will there be expectations of you inviting another person to your party. Make sure to prioritize your nearest and dearest if you are limited with numbers.

New Year’s Eve only happens once per annum and therefore the theme of the party needs to be well thought out. There are so many creative themes you can think about but here are some of our favorites.
Party Like Jay Gatsby
Gatsby loved to throw lavish parties all year round and you can too if you take a leaf out of his book.
The roaring twenties would be an amazing theme with art deco decorations and a flapper style dress code to glamourize your party. With cocktails flowing, jazz music and laughter to fill the air, it would be an epic entrance for the new year – full of glitz and glamor.
Casino Night
New Year’s Eve is full of mystique and chance, where else can you find that feeling like a casino? Now, we’re not endorsing gambling but you could use monopoly money or another form of currency. Or set up your party like a casino but bring out party and board games for each table? Games can be an excellent way for guests that may not have met before to get to know one another as well. A win win!
Dazzling Décor
When we envision New Year’s Eve we picture the night’s colors of blue or black and the golden color from champagne. These are great colors to inspire how you’ll decorate the location.
Think of balloon garlands, streamers on door frames and wall decorations too! For your tables, you may want to consider table runners and napkins that all suit the theme of your party. Decorations can really tie the party together and set the scene and it’s arguably a very exciting shopping outing.
What’s on the Menu?
What’s a party without some food? There are plenty of ways you can sort the catering out, whether you unleash creative cooking skills or sneakily have DoorDash take care of things.
Your Inner Chef
If cooking is one of your passions, you may want to host a dinner with your own culinary skills! This could be very cost-effective as you can alter your cooking in accordance to everyone’s personal tastes and choose recipes you know will wow the crowd. It can take up a lot of your time though and add a lot of pressure – this may best suit a small- to medium-sized crowd.
Food to Your Door
Taking out the stress of cooking and ordering a take out is a great way to afford yourself more time. Just double check that the place you plan to order from is open on New Year’s Eve!
Chef’s Orders
A personal chef or a catering company is an excellent idea to bring sophistication to your New Year’s Eve party. Though costly, if the dinner is the main part of the gathering it will certainly be a showstopper moment for your guests!
Entertainment
The guests are fed, they have a cocktail in hand… Now they need some entertainment, especially as the clock gets closer to midnight! Entertainment will be one of the parts your guests remember the most.
A Show in the Sky
When the clock strikes midnight, as many major cities do, set off fireworks! Fireworks add a huge sense of grandeur to a party and your guests will be totally mesmerized! Sparklers are also a wonderful idea to offer to your guests as they add an opportunity for some really exciting photos to capture the memories of your party.
If fireworks aren’t plausible, sparkers alone can provide a massive amount of entertainment if you make a game out of them – get the guests making some shapes out of them or even a touch of interpretive ballet. It’ll certainly add to the merriment!

Photos make the memories last forever and you can have so much fun with it. Consider a photo booth as a great way to entertain your guests. Props, background and goofy poses are a hilarious and very special way to personalize your guests’ evening.

Whilst we might associate champagne as the drink of the night, why not encourage a cocktail making competition with your guests. This is an excellent way to keep your guests entertained as they can get very creative. We’re thinking of edible glitter, dry ice and spins on the classics as a way of seeing the night through.
Music for the Moment
Is it really a party if there isn’t any music? Making sure you have a playlist that matches the vibe is really important. Luckily, on most streaming platforms there are plenty of premade playlists that you can use or take inspiration from. You may want to get a DJ or ask the guests to request the tunes. Ultimately, having some feel-good songs or dance classics will set your party into good spirits.
