From survival horror RPGs to genre-defying puzzle games and cozy farming simulators, 2025 has been very kind to us so far.
We’ve fearfully shut our curtains while playing Look Outside, furiously rubbed our temples at Blue Prince, and mindfully clasped our hands around steaming cups of tea during Wanderstop. But we’re only halfway through the year, and the ever-generous indie scene still has plenty more experiences to savor.
From sequels to supermarket management sims, read on for a look at 10 upcoming indie titles that are sure to immerse you in wondrous new worlds.
Why Indie Games Matter
The rebels of the gaming world, indie games keep things funky, fresh, bold—and, most importantly, weird. Sure, AAA titles boast mega budgets and photo-realistic graphics, but they rarely take the risks that indie developers do. Where else could you roleplay as a spark of electricity zipping through wires—or a flying squirrel? (Looking at you, AWAY: The Survival Series.)
Oddballs though they may be, indie games feel like home to gamers who don’t quite fit in with the norms. And that sense of freedom? Absolutely irreplaceable. Now, let’s dive into the most anticipated indie titles of late 2025!
Displate Picks: Top 10 Upcoming Indie Games
1. Tales Of The Shire
If you’ve ever found yourself watching The Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit for the thousandth time and wishing you could visit Bag End, this game is for you.
Tales of The Shire swings open the wooden, circular door to Hobbiton and lets you step inside one of those oh-so-familiar, cozy, low-ceilinged dwellings as a hobbit. Spend hours tending your garden, learning to fish, cooking tasty snacks, and indulging every cottagecore Hobbity fantasy. Thanks to Weta Workshop, fantasy fans finally have a way to feel at home.
Release: July 29th, 2025.
Where to play: PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and Switch.
2. Discounty
Looking to fill a supermarket-shaped hole in your life? Let Discounty step in. Your aunt has entrusted you with her supermarket in the harbor town of Blomkest, where you’ll spend your days stacking shelves, customizing the store layout, and mingling with the quirky locals (just try not to get too caught up in the small-town gossip, as tempting as the drama may be).
This whimsical, 8-bit, retro-style title from Crinkle Cut Games turns menial, repetitive tasks into pure satisfaction. Sometimes all you need is a little light manual labor to take the edge off. Seriously — what better way to unwind after work than by role-playing another 9-to-5?
Release: August 21st, 2025.
Where to play: PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PS4, and Switch.
3. The Berlin Apartment
Speaking of manual labor, why not step into the shoes of a handyman with a big refurb project on your hands? The Berlin Apartment combines a charming art style, engaging short story sequences, and treasure-hunting elements into one wholesome, hands-on experience. As you repair the interiors, you’ll uncover relics that reveal the building’s history and its past inhabitants, delivering a perfect blend of nostalgia and curiosity.
Release: November, 2025.
Where to play: PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.
4. Mixtape
In our humble opinion, gamers have the best taste in music — and Mixtape is here to prove it. Featuring tracks from Joy Division, The Cure, Iggy Pop, The Smashing Pumpkins, and more, it’s a masterclass in nostalgia and soundtracks.
In this upcoming indie, you follow three friends on their final night together as they play through the soundtrack of a generation, reliving dream-like reenactments of their childhoods. From baseball and skateboarding to first kisses and sneaking into an abandoned theme park for edgy photos, it’s basically a bingo card of teenage memories. Smells like teen spirit to us.
Release: TBC (2025).
Where to play: PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.
5. The Mermaid’s Mask
There’s been a murder on the world’s strangest submarine — and a curious, ancient stone cauldron locked in a room. Any ideas?
We loved Tangle Tower, so you better believe we were grinning from ear to ear when Detective Grimoire and Sally returned in The Mermaid’s Mask.
The second installment in the Detective Grimoire series, this upcoming indie delivers all your favorite clue-hunting and 3D exploration in a fresh, eerie setting, complete with haunting music from the Budapest Art Orchestra. Are you ready to uncover who killed Magnus Mortuga?
Release: TBC (2025).
Where to play: PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.
6. Baby Steps
What happens if you watch so much TV on the couch that your legs forget how to walk? Baby Steps dares to answer that question in the weirdest way possible.
This delightfully bizarre indie fully earns its “loco-crazy-off-the-wall” reputation. Freed from his parents’ dingy basement, jumpsuit-clad Nate must relearn walking using his own flesh prison of a body.
You flop forward, knees buckle, you tumble off cliffs, and rage-quitting becomes inevitable — yet somehow, it’s oddly addictive. If the demos are anything to go by, this quirky literal walking simulator is a must-try for anyone who loves the utterly absurd.
Release: September 8th, 2025.
Where to play: PC and PS5.
7. Winter Burrow
Maybe it’s time for something a little more wholesome than a man-baby in a onesie with jello legs. Enter Winter Burrow.
This one’s so cute we might not make it through the description without tearing up. Even the developer’s name is cozy — Pine Creek Games. Come on!
In this Wind in the Willows-inspired survival game, you play as a mouse tasked with restoring your childhood burrow to its former snug glory. Forage carefully to avoid the wind and pesky insects, and make it back in time for baking pies, knitting sweaters, and all the comforts of home.
Bonus cuteness: your mouse rocks a bobble hat to stay warm. We’re not crying — you’re crying.
Release: TBC (2025).
Where to play: PC and Xbox Series X/S.
8. Cairn
Once you hit your mid-20s, hobbies tend to fall into one of a few factions: pickleball, overpriced coffee, traveling to Asia, running marathons… or climbing (or “bouldering,” if you want to be specific).
Cairn, a stunning and immersive climbing simulator, caters to the last category. You play as a pro climber attempting a summit that’s never been reached before. The gameplay is simple but effective: explore freely, plan your route, and climb anything you can. Just… watch your footing.
Release: November 5th, 2025.
Where to play: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Microsoft Windows.
9. Slay the Spire 2
The second sequel on our list, Slay the Spire 2, returns with the Spire reopened, hungrier than ever, and packed with even more labyrinthine challenges and intriguing characters.
This beloved deck-building, battle-heavy game comes back better than ever, with dazzling new cards, shelves full of relics and potions, and frightening new perils to test your strategy.
Sharpen your wits (and your deck), because in Slay the Spire 2, the weak don’t survive — the Spire’s brutal trials are back with a vengeance.
Release: TBC (2025).
Where to play: Linux, Microsoft Windows, and macOS.
10. Blippo+
Finishing off with a title that truly cements indie games’ oddball charm is Blippo+. Text-based, offbeat, and self-proclaimed as an off-cable TV simulator, it draws inspiration from the ‘80s and ‘90s — curious enough?
Surf the static and explore wacky channels that celebrate the quirks of TV history through costumes, makeup, and delightfully strange dialogue.
If you’re ready to toss out the usual rules of gameplay and storytelling, it’s time to tune into Blippo+.
Release: May 29, 2025 (Playdate), Fall 2025 (Steam, Switch)
Where to play: Playdate, Steam, Nintendo Switch
