VALORANT Maps: Your Complete Guide

June 17, 2026 by Displate Editorial in Culture & Fandom

You can have pixel-perfect aim.

You can instalock Jett.

You can even blame your duo.

But if you don’t know the map? You’re losing that round.

In VALORANT, map knowledge isn’t optional: it’s the difference between a clean rotate and a “wait… they’re already on site?” moment. And with Riot Games swapping maps in and out every Act like they’re shuffling a deck of cards, staying on top of the VALORANT map ecosystem is mandatory if you care about your rank.

In This Guide, We’re Breaking Down:

  • How many maps are in VALORANT?
  • Reviewing the Standard VALORANT maps (full list)
  • Which VALORANT maps are currently in rotation
  • VALORANT map fun facts

Let’s queue up.

How Many Maps Are in VALORANT?

As of early 2026, there are 18 playable maps in VALORANT, depending on what you count.

Here’s the breakdown:

  • Around 12 large-scale standard tactical maps are used in Competitive, Unrated, and Premier.
  • Around 5 Team Deathmatch maps.
  • The Range (aka: where you warm up and swear your aim feels better than it does when you’re playing).

However (and this is the important part), only seven maps are active in the competitive rotation at any given time. Now let’s break down the key maps and the positions that matter most.

All VALORANT Maps (Standard Competitive Maps)

We’re diving into all 12 standard VALORANT maps, from their real-world locations and hidden lore details to the angles that win rounds—and the positions that separate ranked grinders from tactical masterminds. Let’s load in and break down the battlegrounds properly.

Ascent – Venice, Italy

Ascent is pure, old-school VALORANT. No gimmicks, no chaos—just clean aim duels and well-balanced play. If your fundamentals are sharp, this map feels incredible. If they’re not, you’ll find out fast.

With its wide-open mid area connecting both bomb sites, control of the space can dictate the entire round. Add in the iconic mechanical doors that can be opened or closed, and you’ve got a map that’s tactical, balanced, and still widely considered one of the best-designed arenas in the game. It’s easy to see why there’ve been little to no changes to Ascent since it was released; if it ain’t broke, why fix it?

Top 5 Angles to Hold – Ascent

  • A Rafters (Heaven) to A Main
  • B Market Door Swing
  • Mid Top from Catwalk
  • B Lane from Switch
  • A Tree to A Main

Agent Tip: Neon

If you’re entry fragging with Neon on Ascent, focus on taking Mid control early and applying pressure through Market or Catwalk. Her speed makes it easier to challenge Mid Top aggressively, while Fast Lane can help your team cross dangerous sightlines when pushing onto B Site. Once space has been created, Neon can quickly rotate between sites and punish defenders who overcommit to holding a single angle.

Bind – Rabat, Morocco

Bind throws out the traditional mid-lane formula and replaces it with instant rotation potential and strong zone control. Instead of fighting for mid control, teams battle for space around tight chokepoints and use the map’s twin teleporters to fake, pivot, and explode onto sites.

As one of VALORANT’s original beta maps, Bind has always rewarded bold decision-making. The teleporters announce your arrival, so smart teams pair them with smokes or flashes to create distractions. Add narrow corridors and layered site angles, and Bind becomes a map where preparation—and a little audacity—wins rounds.

  • Hookah Window (B Site)
  • A Lamps Close Left
  • B Elbow Crossfire
  • A Heaven to Default Plant
  • B Long Cubby

Agent Tip: Omen

Bind’s narrow chokepoints and unique teleporter system make it an excellent map for Controllers like Omen. His smokes can help block key sightlines at A Heaven, Hookah, and B Long, making it easier for teammates to take control of contested areas. Omen can also use Shrouded Step to reposition unexpectedly and pressure opponents holding angles such as A Lamps or B Elbow.

Haven – Thimphu, Bhutan

Haven was the first map to break the two-site formula, introducing a triple-site layout that instantly changed how VALORANT is played. Defenders are constantly stretched thin, and attackers have more ways to apply pressure.

On Haven, smart rotations matter more than raw aim. Mid control and quick decision-making can swing rounds in seconds. If your comms are sharp and your team moves as one, Haven feels strategic and fluid. If not… you’ll be chasing your tail across the map all game.

  • C Long Platform
  • Garage Window
  • A Heaven Swing
  • B Back Site Headshot Box
  • C Link Crossfire

Agent Tip: Sova

Haven’s three-site layout makes information incredibly valuable, which is why Initiators like Sova are often a strong pick. His Recon Bolt can reveal defenders holding key positions around A Site, Garage and C Long, helping your team decide where to commit.

From A Site in particular, gathering information before pushing can prevent attackers from walking into common angles, such as A Heaven. On a map where teams are constantly spread across multiple lanes, knowing where the enemy isn’t can be just as important as knowing where they are.

Split – Tokyo, Japan

Split is defined by height advantage and tight chokepoints, forcing teams to fight for every inch of space. As the first map to introduce ascenders, it leans heavily into vertical gameplay, rewarding players who understand elevation, off-angles, and layered crossfires.

Often considered defender-favored, Split’s narrow entryways and stacked sightlines make coordinated executions essential. Solo pushes get punished fast here—but with the right utility and timing, even the tightest choke can be cracked open.

  • B Heaven Rafters
  • A Screens Headshot Angle
  • Mid Vent Drop
  • B Main Close Right
  • A Ramp Aggro Peek

Agent Tip: Cypher

Split rewards information and patience just as much as mechanical skill. Cypher thrives on the map’s narrow choke points and predictable entry routes, allowing him to gather intel and slow enemy pushes through areas like A Main, Mid, and B Main.

His utility can force attackers to clear multiple threats before committing, buying valuable time for rotations and making it even harder to break through Split’s defender-favoured positions.

Lotus – Western Ghats, India

Lotus takes the three-site chaos of Haven and layers environmental mind games on top. With spinning stone doors and destructible walls, the map constantly shifts how space is controlled from round to round.

Its layered design rewards teams who thrive on fakes, quick pivots, and unpredictable site hits. Add in rope ascenders and silent drops, and Lotus becomes a playground for sneaky flanks and last-second repositioning. If you enjoy outsmarting opponents rather than just out-aiming them, Lotus delivers.

  • C Waterfall to C Main
  • A Tree Close
  • B Upper Link Hold
  • C Mound Operator Angle
  • A Drop Crossfire Setup

Agent Tip: Fade

With three sites to cover and multiple pathways connecting the map, information is one of the most valuable resources on Lotus. Fade excels at gathering intel across large areas, using Haunt to reveal defenders hiding around A Main, B Site and C Mound before a push begins.

Her utility also helps clear tight corners and layered positions, making it easier for teams to navigate Lotus’s complex layout and commit confidently to site takes or fast rotations.

Sunset – Los Angeles, California, USA

Sunset sticks to the classic three-lane formula, with two bomb sites and minimal gimmicks, making it one of the most straightforward tactical maps in the pool. Aside from a destructible door near B Market, it’s all about fundamentals—utility timing, clean executes, and disciplined mid control.

Its urban LA setting introduces layered high ground and compact pathways that reward smart positioning. Use elevation wisely and coordinate your pushes, and Sunset becomes a map where sharp mechanics and teamwork truly shine.

  • Mid Top Control Angle
  • A Rafters to Main
  • B Market Window
  • A Close Cubby
  • B Back Site Crossfire

Agent Tip: Gekko

Sunset’s compact bomb sites and narrow entry routes make Gekko a powerful pick for both attacking and defending. Wingman can safely plant or defuse while teammates hold space, creating pressure without exposing multiple players.

His utility also thrives around Mid and the tight approaches to A and B Site, helping teams clear angles, gather information and break through defensive setups with coordinated utility usage.

Icebox – Bennett Island, Russia, Alpha Earth

Icebox was the first map to fully embrace elevation, adding horizontal ziplines and stacked site design that forces players to think in three dimensions. With layered platforms, tight corners, and towering sightlines, fights rarely happen on just one level—you’re constantly checking above, below and behind.

Its structure naturally leans into plant-and-play setups, making it a favorite for agents with strong post-plant utility and information-gathering tools.

  • A Rafters Top
  • B Snowman
  • Mid Tube Aggro Peek
  • A Nest Angle
  • B Yellow Swing

Agent Tip: Viper

Icebox’s long sightlines and plant-focused gameplay make Viper one of the map’s strongest agents. Her Toxic Screen can divide large sections of A and B Site, making difficult entries more manageable while limiting defender vision.

Once the spike is planted, Viper’s utility excels at delaying defuses and controlling space from a distance, allowing teams to turn even heavily contested sites into favourable post-plant situations.

Breeze – Bermuda Triangle, Atlantic Ocean

Breeze is the largest map in VALORANT, built around open spaces and sprawling bomb sites that demand precision. With extended angles, long-range duels are constant—and if your aim isn’t sharp, you’ll feel it immediately.

The wide layouts and limited cover mean there’s little room for sloppy positioning. Smokes must be perfectly placed, utility coordinated, and every peek carries weight. On Breeze, confidence and mechanical skill aren’t optional—they’re mandatory.

  • A Hall Control
  • B Back Site Deep Angle
  • Mid Pillar Operator Angle
  • A Nest Sniper Hold
  • B Tunnel Crossfire

Agent Tip: Harbor

Breeze’s enormous sightlines make Harbor a natural fit. His High Tide can block multiple long angles at once, helping attackers cross open ground safely and allowing defenders to isolate fights across the map’s wide sites.

On a battleground where controlling vision is often more important than raw utility damage, Harbor gives teams the flexibility needed to take space and execute coordinated site hits.

Fracture – Santa Fe County, New Mexico, USA

Fracture throws out the traditional map formula with its H-shaped layout and dual attacker spawn points, letting teams to pressure sites from both sides right from the start. Defenders aren’t just holding a choke—they’re constantly managing split pressure and fast hits.

Designed to favor aggression, Fracture rewards teams that fight for space early. With four ultimate orbs instead of the usual two, the pace of the game ramps up quickly, turning momentum swings into round-defining moments.

  • A Rope Crossfire
  • B Arcade Hold
  • A Site Drop Anchor

  • Dish Aggro Defender Peek

Agent Tip: Breach

Fracture’s narrow corridors and split-site attacks make Breach a nightmare to play against. His crowd-control abilities can clear defenders from common positions before a push even begins, helping teams capitalise on the map’s aggressive design.

When coordinated with teammates, Breach can turn Fracture’s constant pressure into overwhelming site takes and create openings that are difficult for defenders to recover from.

Pearl – Lisbon, Portugal

Pearl trades gimmicks for clean tactical design, set inside a stunning geo-domed city beneath the ocean. There are no teleporters, no ropes, no environmental tricks to bail you out—just structured lanes, layered chokepoints, and long sightlines that demand proper team play.

With a strong emphasis on tactical skill, Pearl rewards squads that rely on strategy over chaos. If your positioning is sharp and your utility is coordinated, this map feels perfectly balanced.

  • A Art Control
  • B Hall Lurk Hold
  • A Heaven Anchor
  • Mid Top Control
  • B Back Site Platform Hold

Agent Tip: Killjoy

Pearl’s structured layout and long rotations make Killjoy an excellent choice for locking down key areas. Her utility can help secure important positions around Mid and the bomb sites, forcing opponents to slow down and reveal their intentions before committing.

On a map where information and positioning often decide the outcome of a round, Killjoy gives teams the tools to maintain control and punish overaggressive pushes.

Abyss – Sør-Jan, Jan Mayen, Norway

Released in 2024, Abyss immediately stood out for one brutal detail—there are no guardrails. Step too far, mistime a dash or lose track of positioning, and you’re falling straight off the map. It’s punishing, dramatic and very on-brand.

With tight corridors, layered elevation and constant edge pressure, Abyss rewards confident movement and sharp map awareness. Agile agents thrive here, and knowing the layout isn’t optional—it’s survival.

  • A Main Deep Hold
  • Mid Bridge Control
  • B Tower Anchor
  • A Rafters Crossfire
  • B Main Aggro Peek

Agent Tip: Jett

Abyss rewards confidence, and few agents can exploit its verticality and open sightlines better than Jett. Her mobility allows her to challenge aggressive angles, reposition quickly and escape dangerous situations before they become costly.

Whether contesting Mid Bridge or taking early control of A Main, a well-timed dash can turn risky plays into round-winning advantages.

Corrode – Mont-Saint-Michel, France

Released in June 2025, Corrode is the new kid on the block. It keeps things traditional with a clean three-lane layout and two sites—there are no environmental tricks or flashy mechanics here.

Think structured pathways, strong defensive angles, and a mid section defined by long sightlines that demand well-timed smokes. Verticality plays a major role, giving defenders multiple vantage points and layered holds. Brute force rarely works on Corrode—patience, coordinated utility, and smart map control are what actually break sites open.

Top 5 Angles to Hold – Corrode

  • Mid Foundry Control
  • A Ramp Anchor Hold
  • B Tunnel Crossfire
  • A Tower Overwatch
  • B Site Back Platform Hold

Agent Tip: Astra

Corrode’s expansive layout and long sightlines make vision control essential, and Astra’s global utility allows her to influence fights across the entire map without worrying about positioning.

Her smokes can shut down powerful defensive angles, while Gravity Well and Nova Pulse help disrupt entrenched opponents holding elevated positions. On a map that rewards patience and coordinated utility, Astra gives teams the flexibility to control key areas before committing to a site hit.

Maps Currently in Competitive Rotation

VALORANT uses a rotating map pool to keep Competitive, Premier and Deathmatch queues fresh and engaging. Riot Games keeps exactly seven maps active at a time, with others rotated out each Act—so players can focus on mastering a core set of arenas.

As of Season V26, Act One, the current competitive map pool includes:

  • Abyss
  • Bind
  • Breeze
  • Corrode
  • Haven
  • Pearl
  • Split

Introduced in 2022 following the release of Pearl, the map rotations help players settle in faster—figuring out how to get the most out of each site. Unrated, Spike Rush, Escalation, and other limited-time modes aren’t affected by the rotation, so you can still play maps like Icebox or Sunset in those modes.

VALORANT Map Fun Facts

  • Breeze is home to Kingdom Corporation research sites, tied to VALORANT’s Radianite lore.
  • Haven is the first and only map to feature three bomb sites, redefining rotation strategy.
  • Ascent is the only map with destructible doors that permanently change site control.
  • Fracture is designed so attackers start on both sides of defenders, intentionally disrupting traditional setups.
  • Abyss features lethal drop-offs, meaning poor positioning can literally send you off the map.
